Searching through the internet looking for Metadata tags, found this cool blog about turning music files into visual representations using pitch, loudness and other attributes. It primarily uses an open source codec that analyzes the uploaded file and creates visual music scenes. Check it out:

Interesting software! Similarly, the software synthesis tool called Metasynth lets you paint filters and harmonic content into the sound you're creating. This brings a visual component that is very unique and inspires creativity in a different way.
